Buckets of Rain

Sketch

After reviewing the Netflix dataset, I realized that there isn't a lot of variance within a single users rating. The mean rating of all users is 3.8. The variance within a user's rating is from noting to 1.6; which I think is not enough to distinguish between movies. But I wanted the visualization to evoke a feeling of being unique in the user.

Finally I sketched an interface to visualize a Netflix users's movie history. The first sketch (below) has the annotations in red, so hopefully it is self explanatory. The idea behind this lo-fi prototype is users should be able to spend a lot of time with the visualization to understand their movie history. So there is an interface (left pane) for users to enter movie names, generes, actors, etc that the currently prefer. So if the user watched a movie a year ago and rated it poorly; but has changed opinion since - he/she can enter the movie name to increase its importance in the dataset. The objective is to capture the user's thoughts easily.

For the actual visualization, the movie posters will be used to
